English version below
App
Face ID

FSCU Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 19, 2026
FSCU is an unofficial iPhone app made independently by a student at Soochow University (Taiwan). It is not an official product of Soochow University or of its learning platform. This policy explains how FSCU handles your data.
Summary
- The developer does not collect any of your data. FSCU has no server of its own and contains no ads, analytics or tracking tools.
- Your timetable, grades and other data travel only between your iPhone and Soochow University’s websites. The developer cannot see them.
- You enter your account, password and birthday verification yourself, on the university’s official login page. The app does not read or store them.
What the app connects to
- Soochow University websites (domains ending in scu.edu.tw):
- The university’s student system: your timetable, semester grades and graduation-credit records.
- The university’s learning platform: your to-dos and current courses, plus the announcements, materials, assignments and assignment scores of a course when you open it. If you turn on new-notification alerts, it also reads your notification list. When you open the Notifications page on the app’s home screen, it reads your 20 most recent notifications (read-only; nothing is marked as read).
- The university’s public news site: public campus announcements, without any sign-in data.
- The university’s public academic calendar on the student system: holidays, exam weeks and other school dates, without any sign-in data.
- The university’s public course syllabus site: when you open a course’s Syllabus tab, the app reads that course’s public syllabus, without any sign-in data.
- These connections work like opening the university websites in a browser. The university’s servers see ordinary connection details such as your IP address, the app name and the iOS version.
- The app only reads data, with one exception: when you open course material in the app, it sends the same “viewed” record the learning platform’s website sends, so your course progress is counted.
- Attachments and links in announcements open in a Safari view inside the app only when you tap them, and may lead to websites outside the university.
- The privacy policy (隱私權政策) and help and contact (使用說明與聯絡) links in the app’s Settings are FSCU’s own web pages (imdannew.com). They also open in a Safari view inside the app only when you tap them. Like any website, that site sees ordinary connection details such as your IP address.
- The app’s sign-in screen shows the university’s own web pages. Content from other websites that those pages include (for example Google Maps) is loaded too. See “Third parties” below.
Data stored on your iPhone
The following data is stored on your iPhone and is never sent to the developer. Some of it is included in your own iCloud or computer backups, as noted below:
- Sign-in state (not your password): the sign-in data the university websites give you after you sign in, so you don’t have to sign in every time. It is kept in two places:
- The copy the app saves itself (so birthday verification and the learning-platform sign-in still work after the app restarts) is kept in the iPhone Keychain, limited to this device. It is not synced to iCloud and is not restored to another iPhone from a backup.
- The university website’s own sign-in cookies, including the ones that keep you signed in for about 30 days, are kept by iOS’s web component in the app’s data. Like your settings and to-dos, they are included in iCloud and computer backups. Encrypting computer backups is recommended. If a backup is restored to another iPhone, this sign-in may still work there until it expires on the university’s side.
- Cached timetable, grades and graduation credits, including the name shown on the grades page and the names of approved double majors, minors or programs. These are excluded from iCloud and computer backups.
- Course syllabi you have opened: the university’s public syllabi, cached in the app. They show which courses you take, so like the timetable they are excluded from iCloud and computer backups.
- A check for a different user: the app does not store your student ID. It stores only a code derived from it, to notice when someone else signs in on the same iPhone.
- Your settings and to-dos, such as appearance, to-dos you add and read marks. These are included in iPhone backups.
- Materials you download, only those your teacher allows, saved in the Files app under On My iPhone › FSCU. These are included in iPhone backups.
- Logs: the time and reason when the learning platform’s sign-in expires, the IDs of notifications already checked, and the IDs of notifications you have seen or opened on the Notifications page. No content.
Notifications and Face ID
- All notifications are local notifications created on your iPhone, with no server involved.
- The first time you open the app, iOS asks whether to allow notifications. If you tap Allow, to-do reminders and the learning platform’s new-notification alerts are turned on. You can turn each of them off in the app’s Settings › Notifications, or in the iPhone Settings app.
- While new-notification alerts are on, the app reads your learning-platform notification list (read-only) when iOS gives it background time. Because this also has to work while the phone is locked, the learning-platform sign-in can be read once the iPhone has been unlocked after it starts up.
- Notifications may include the course name and the title of an announcement or assignment, but not the announcement text. Whether they show on the Lock Screen follows your iPhone’s Show Previews setting.
- Tapping a notification opens that announcement or assignment in the app. The Notifications page keeps its contents only in memory while the app is running, not on your phone’s storage. “Read” marks in the app stay on your phone; nothing is marked as read on the learning platform.
- Face ID lock is optional and handled by iOS. The app never receives your face data.
Third parties
- Soochow University: you sign in to the university’s websites, and the university’s own policies govern how it handles your data.
- Apple: if you choose “Share with App Developers” on your iPhone, Apple gives the developer crash reports and usage statistics, which do not include your timetable or grades. If you join TestFlight testing, feedback and screenshots you choose to send also go to the developer. Please hide personal information in screenshots first.
- Other services inside university pages: the app’s sign-in screen shows the university’s own web pages, and those pages may include content from other companies, such as Google Maps. As in a browser, that content loads from the other company’s website, which sees ordinary connection details such as your IP address. On the sign-in screen the app blocks Google’s analytics and tracking (Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager). When the app reads data in the background, it loads only content from Soochow University’s websites and blocks everything else.
- Apart from this, FSCU uses no other third-party libraries or services.
Retention and deletion
- Data stays on your iPhone until you sign out or delete the app. iPhone backups made before that may still contain a copy, kept according to your own backup settings.
- Sign out signs you out of the university’s student system and deletes the app’s sign-in state, cached timetable, grades and syllabi, to-dos and reminders.
- Clear Local Data and Sign Out (at the bottom of Settings) also deletes your settings.
- Downloaded materials are your own files and are not deleted when you sign out. Delete them in the Files app or on the course page.
- Before deleting the app, please sign out first: iPhone Keychain data may remain after an app is deleted.
- Before moving to a new iPhone, please sign out in the app and then back up, so the university websites’ sign-in data does not move to the new phone. Just sign in again on the new phone.
- The developer holds no data about you, so there is nothing to request for deletion.
Children
FSCU is made for Soochow University students and is not designed for children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If the way FSCU handles data changes, this page and the date above will be updated.
